The blankets are done! I had so much fun surprising the kids with what I hope will become special “lovies” for them.
When I was a little girl, my mom made me a cabbage patch doll. I knew she was working on it, that part wasn’t a surprise. I remember anxiously watching and waiting for her to finish so I could play with my new doll. The surprise actually came one morning when I woke up and found the doll tucked into bed with me. That is one of my most favorite memories from childhood! Mom and I were talking about that yesterday, and the funny thing is…she forgot all about sneaking the doll into my bed. Isn’t it interesting that sometimes we unknowingly creating wonderful, treasured memories for someone else? I wonder what kinds of memories my kids will carry with them that will be unknown to me.
In the spirit of surprises and memories, on my way to bed last night, I wrapped each of my four blessings up in their blankets and included a special note for the girls. This morning, (bright and early at 5:40…yes, on occasion we have some very early risers in this house!) I was awakened to the sound of a little voice saying “what’s this?” And then I let my heart fill up as I listened to sweet little Abby’s voice read her card out loud to herself. She came sneaking into my bedroom with her blanket and card to tell me how much she loved them. Of course, she then had to wake her sister because, well…why shouldn’t we all be awake before 6 am? At least I was able to convince them to leave the boys alone, because once Eli is awake, the madness begins.
Poor Chris had spent the last few hours in the boys’ room squished in bed with Owen, who was having a hard night. So, the three of us girls had plenty of room to snuggle together in my bed. Despite my best efforts and attempts to convince them to go back to sleep (it IS summer after all, maybe we could sleep in…just once?!?!), there was no more sleeping. There was whispering and giggling. I was still tired, but in the grand scheme of things…now I have another great memory!!!!
Anyhow…I’m so happy they all love their blankets! Now, when I am too tired or too far away to hug and hold my babies, they can wrap up in a giant HUG filled with all my love.
Here’s some pics from this morning. Don’t you worry…we’re not missing a child in the first picture. Owen just decided to be a rock today. But, since his blanket is camouflage, you might not be able to see him very well. 🙂
Love the Blankets! And, the fact that the kids bring them for sleep-overs. You are hugging them all night long – and while they ride in the car, and when they watch movies, etc. 🙂
Sweet! The blankets are so cute, Jamie! What a sweet idea and it sure looks like they’re a hit with your adorable kiddos. I love the camo-rock! Ha, ha!
Hope all is well with you and your family. Hope you can catch up on some rest..maybe those snugglie blankies will inspire the kids to nap with you!
Hi Jamie, Chris and your precious gift’s from God. Your children will grow to have compassion, empathy and will persevere. you will always be the best Mommy to you children. Your posts have inspired me to share more non verbal communication. being in the same room listening to sonatas while they in the shower, watching a Christmas Movie with hot chocolate. Must find more minutes to be available when they need me……. more de cluttering I do means more time spent with my blossoming young sons <3
Peace be with You,
In my thought's and prayers.
Mary Hope to see you again for adoration
You are such an amazing Mother!! Love the blankets!
They look wonderfully cozy!!! My kids are obsessed with blankets and name them based on how they feel or who they came from 🙂 I’m sure your crew will do lots of snuggling with them.
What a wonderful thing to do for your kids! And Jamie, you are such a gifted writer. Thank you so much for sharing your & Chris’s journey with everyone. God bless you and your family!
